The Pousadas use a room yield system. This means the rooms rates vary by dates and availability. You can use the online reservation system to determine exact rates. If you send an enquiry, we will always quote the best available rate. The Pousada of Viseu is now open - and what a splendid place it is. In April of 2007 work began on converting the former Sao Teotonio Hospital into a luxury Pousada. In an excellent location, just five minutes from Rossio (social and cultural centre of the city, next to city hall) the Pousada is an imposing 18th century building under the watchful eye of three statues representing Faith, Hope and Charity. In 1799 Queen Dona Maria extracted from every county in the former district of Viseu a contribution of one real towards the cost of building the Hospital. The renovation, designed by architect Gonçalo Byrne, has created a magical transformation and a stay here will be special. There are eighty four rooms, and indoor and outdoor pool, spa, two restaurants and a bar at the cloister. Th rooms are air conditioned and have cable television (LCD), minibar, hairdryer, safe, internet access and telephone. This Pousada is the first with a spa which will include heated indoor swimming pool, sauna and turkish bath, tropical shower and ice fountain, massage and relaxation rooms, jacuzzi and gym. The Pousada is located about 130 km. from Porto (about 1.5 hours drive), 96 km from Coimbra and 292 km. from Lisbon.

Most Pousadas can put one extra bed in a room but they can't usually put two. Free cot for children 0 - 2. Children 3-12 years old pay 15% of room rate.
Notes Viseu is full of artistic treasures, ancient churches and local crafts. It is surrounded by rich agricultural lands and is well known for its its fine cheeses and Dão wines. Most of the vineyards have been here at least fifty years so the winemaking tradition is well established. The reds are often compared to wines from Burgundy and the white wines are popular around the world. A wide variety of crafts is available here from handmade lace to the local black bottery - always available at markets throughout the area. In town visit Grão Vasco Museum, Arte Sacra Museum, Casa Museu Almeida Moreira (Museum), Sé Catedral (Cathedral), Misericórdia Church, Terceiros Church, Carmo Church, Santo António de Viseu Church. Festivals include São Mateus Fair (one of the best-known regional summer fairs in the country, attracting over 300 exhibitors; held annually between August and September); Viriato Festival (music festival); Viseu Gourmet (festival of fine food, wine and atmospheres).
