Full payment is required 30 days prior to your stay. There is a 2 night minimum at this inn. In the Alto Douro region, the house and farm were designed by renowned architect Raul Lino and recently restored. A gret place from which to enjoy the interesting local areas. The graceful architectural style of the house was Portugal's answer to the French Art Deco movement. The current hosts have a connection to the popular Mateus wine, created when descendents of the original owners redesigned the bottle of the estate wine and included a picture of the family home, Palacio de Mateus, which may be visited. There are four stone-walled guest bedrooms with comfortable beds and simple furniture. The meals (which need to be ordered in advance) are made from home-grown produce and estate-reared meats, are delicious and the house red and white wines are delightful. Nearby concerts are at the Casa Mateus. Please note that this is not a rural property: it is an urban guesthouse that is part of the Solares group.

A non-refundable deposit of 50 euros will be taken upon confirming your reservation. The balance of full prepayment will be taken thirty days prior to your reservation date. If cancelled between 29 to 15 days of expected arrival, 25% of full payment will be retained. If cancelled 14 to 6 days prior to arrival, 75% of total cost will be retained. If cancelled less than 5 days before expected arrival, full payment will be retained. No show, full payment will be retained. We recommend travel cancellation insurance when booking a property in this Group.

Caretaker was friendly but spoke no English. Owner showed up only briefly and never spoke to us other than hi.
We did fine on our own but were never asked who we were (!) or if we needed anything. (Had to ask for a bottle of wine and drink it from tumblers in our room)” Rating: Good
“The hotel was very good. However, while the staff was very nice and helpful, the hosts were very cold, distant and were absent from the premises 6 out of the 7 nights we spent there. Everything was the opposite of what the description on the site mentioned about them: the hostess met us the day we arrived and asked if we had any questions. We said no, and the next time we saw her or exchanged words was a week later when they came back to the house the following weekend. From the site description we expected warm and hospitable hosts. We did receive that from the staff though.”
