Set in the heart of the Port wine region, the noble house of Casa de Varais overlooks the Douro valley with terraces of vines. The original construction is from the 15th century with additions and changes made in the early 18th century. Varais was invaded by Napoleonic troops in 1808 and was almost completely destroyed by fire in 1940. The house has a fascinating and noble history. The guest bedrooms have large windows overlooking the river and the Regua and are full or antiques, marble and mahogany. The pink house can be seen on the labels of the house's wines which you can try at dinner. The owner Joao will be pleased to show you around the adega and explain the intricacies of grapegrowing and winemaking and wine tasting can also be organized for guests. An excellent base for walking tours. This guesthouse is part of the Solares of Portugal group.
