The Pousadas use a room yield system. This means the rooms rates vary by dates and availability. You can use the online reservation system to determine exact rates. If you send an enquiry, we will always quote the best available rate. Palmela Pousada is nestled within the village castle located on top of an imposing hill, with lovely surrounding views. Built in a strategic location, the castle was an important point between the Sado and Tejo´s rivers basins and part of the defensive triangle of Lisbon. The castle was reconstructed by D. Afonso Henriques, D. Sancho I and D. Afonso II and expanded by D. João I in the seventeenth century. It later became a convent and now is designated as a Historic Pousada with the original convent cloisters leading to the galleries (now rooms, restaurant and bar). The Santa Maria church is within the castle walls and this was rebuilt in 1534, although it was mostly destroyed by the 1755 earthquake. Palmela village itself is an ancient place, being founded in 310 BC, and has been inhabited during history by the Arabs and Christians. The Pousada has twenty eight rooms, including five suites, all fully ensuite and with minibar, hairdryer, television, air conditioning and heating. Palmela Pousada boasts excellent wines and cuisine, and it is also the perfect starting place to discover the Costa Azul and the magnificent Arrábida Natural Park. The wine growing region of Palmela is near Setubal, 40 km. south of Lisbon.
