Entering through the gateway of this 17th century manor house, the aroma of flowers surrounds you. Casa do Campo boasts a prize-winning garden (the oldest Camelia in Portugal is claimed to be here). There is a renaissance chapel in the grounds where a weekly mass is still held. The Meireles family have been here for centuries and now farm the estate and vineyards. Guest bedrooms, all different, are in a renovated wing of the house and are elegantly decorated. Maria is a gracious hostess to her guests. The gardens here are a dream for landscape and gardening enthusiasts and often small groups book the entire hotel just to wander the gardens. The ancient camelias are trained into incredible shapes and are spectacular in the spring and summer. All credit cards accepted. There are restaurants in the nearby village (5 km away). This guesthouse is part of the Solares de Portugal manor houses group.
