The rooms are at the entrance to a farm estate. Our room was actually a whole suite with a separate bedroom and a comfortable living room. It was nice staying in such rural surroundings and fun seeing all the antique farming equipment. Every evening there was a different treat from the farm waiting for us in our room -- apples, roasted chestnuts, wine, cakes. Good fresh breakfasts.
Didn't Like:
We were welcomed very nicely on our arrival by our hostess but never saw her again (we stayed 4 nights). The housekeeper was very sweet but she spoke no English. There were two misleading comments on the site that if I had known I would not have chosen Quinta da Picaria : I think it was misleading to say that English is spoken. There was no one during the day that spoke English to answer questions or help with any difficulties. The site also said that there was a dining room. I assumed that meant that meals were offered. There was no dinner served, and breakfast was left for us on a table on one end of an attractive sitting room. The general location is central for day trips, but it is actually quite remote. We had no map of the town of Guimarei that we were in or of nearby Santo Tirso so even after we found a pamphlet listing nearby restaurants, we could not find any of them. In our opinion, this is not a place that's suitable for foreign tourists. ”
