Located on the outskirts of Funchal (five minutes drive away and the main city on Madeira Island) is this pretty hotel with eighty nine guestrooms. This is a discreet haven tucked away for privacy, surrounded by tall trees and beautiful gardens and with a sweeping view of the bay of Funchal. Family-owned and operated, this one hundred and fifty year old Quinta offers a stylish and friendly place to stay. The suites (all ensuite of course) are uniquely decorated with antiques and fine prints and have large bedrooms, separate sitting room with garden or sea views. The double guestrooms are situated in two new annexes, one with twin garden view rooms and the other with superior views towards the bay: all of these rooms are furnished with meticulous attention to detail and have an aura of quiet elegance, comfort and charm. There are private marble bathrooms with hairdryer, colour television, direct dial telephone and air conditioning. The two restaurants, Avista Navios and Casa Mae, offers fine island cuisine with the best of Portugal's wines. They are well-known in the rgion for first class cuisine. Half board is possible and both table d'hote and a la carte menus are available. There are three pleasant bars on the property. There is a swimming pool in the garden (with wonderful bay views), and workout apparatus in the gym. A number of spa treatments are also available.
