There is a compulsory dinner supplement during high season, (Easter:84 Euros, Christmas:138 Euros, New Years:209 Euros). This luxurious hotel is the brainchild of French architects Michel de Camaret and Didier Lefort (whose previous works include wonderful creations in Malaysia and Bora Bora). Asian and African influences abound and the artwork and artifacts are of museum-quality. This is a fairly large hotel, but designed and laid out to give the impression of an intimate space. The rooms, sixty four of which are in bungalows on stilts, are spacious, light-filled and wonderfully decorated in wood and stone themes. Some have garden views and some sea views. The suites are on the south-facing slope of the Archipelago of Madeira and each varanda faces the ocean, with a perfect lookout over the city of Funchal. Breathtaking is an understatement. There are two heated swimming pools, an outdoor lagoon swimming pool and an indoor hydrotherapy pool with jet massage and jacuzzi effect. In the sea-facing Xopana restaurant, the chef has reinvented local cooking techniques - an exquisite fusion of local and exotic. This is a wonderfully romantic hotel. Choupana Hills is nominated at the World Travel Award 2004 for the “Europe’s Leading Boutique Hotel” and “Portugal’s Leading SPA Resort”. It has also been awarded in Europe in the CONDÉ NAST Readers' Spa Award 2007: Favorite Overseas Hotel Spa in Europe; and Conde Nast Traveller UK Reader's Spa Awards 2008: 8th best Hotel Spa in Europe.

Notes A courtesy bus service is available to and from the centre of Funchal several times a day. There is a preferred membership to play golf (27 holes) at Santo da Serra Golf Course, 20 minutes drive from the hotel. Palheiro Golf course is 10 minutes drive. The Spa offers aromatherapy, Rasul exfoliation, algae wraps, hydro massage, relaxing and revitalizing baths, an authentic Turkish bath -- a perfect fusion of rigour and imagination.

Cancellation Policy:
In low season if the reservation is cancelled 3 days or less prior to arrival 3 nights will be charged by the hotel. In high season, if a reservation is cancelled 15 days or less prior to arrival, the full amount of the stay will be charged by the hotel. For Christmas and New Years if the reservation is cancelled 30 days or less prior to arrival, 50% of the total stay will be charged by the hotel. In case of No-show full stay will be charged for any season.
