In the centre of the Duoro port wine region lies the small village of Chanceleiros which overlooks the vineyards. Grapes have been grown in this area since the twelfth century. The inn, once a manor house, was completly renovated by its owners and is now one of the most luxurious places in the Douro Valley. The hotel is recognized by the red Guide Michelin, the only inn in the region to receive this designation. Upon entering the house there are the traditional two figures on either side of the doorway - a sign from past eras of a wealthy household. From the entrance hall, a granite staircase leads to a grand, beautifully decorated dining room and reception area. The ten guest rooms are all uniquely decorated and all are ensuite. They have underfloor heating, private terraces and in some rooms there are fireplaces. The rooms also have satellite and cable television. The well tended grounds include a lighted tennis court and there is also an indoor squash court. The pool is delightful (for those with less athletic interests). There is a bar at this Casa and you may enjoy lunch or dinner in the dining room or on the terrace.
