The approach to this majestic 18th century manor is through a delightful pine wood and the village of Canas de Senhorim. Raising cattle was originally the livelihood of the inhabitants, and there are many fascinating medals and awards decorating the hallway walls, but now the production of Dao wine and Serra cheese is the main occupation of the area. Interior decoration in the house is elegant and the ambience is warm, despite the massive proportions of the rooms. Wine tasting can be organized for guests and there are many activities both within and outside the house to while away a relaxing time. At the entrance to the house are two full sized carriages which once belonged to the distinguished owners, and across the road there are more coaches in a small museum. There is a chapel attached to the house which is still in use. The owner speaks some French and English and is most charming. Only breakfast is served at the house but there are a couple of restaurants and cafes in the village within easy walking distance. This guesthouse is part of the Solares group of guesthouses and the Casa Antiga designation indicates elegant manor houses and country estates most ofen originating from the 17th and 18th centuries.
