This house has an impressive entrance with a gateway leading to a beautiful tree-lined drive, past vineyards, to a stone fountain and the ivy-clad entrance. The house has been in the same family for six and a half centuries and the present Count of Calheiros is charming in showing you his family home. The house was rebuilt in the 17th century and the present interiors are brimming with antiques, gracious salons, and spacious guestrooms. It is a wonderful place to stroll around the gardens, saddle a horse and ride in the nearby countryside or just relax by the pool which has a lovely view (you may also play tennis if you wish). There are magnificent views of the Lima Valley from the tranquil gardens. The independent apartments in the grounds of the main house are for 2 people each, with kitchenette, bathroom, living room and twin bedroom. These have easy access to the area where the pool and superb tennis court is located. Usually only breakfast is served but there are restaurants within 3 km. drive. If you wish to eat at the house, let the owners know in advance and dinner can be prepared (approx. 30 euros per person). This property is part of the Solares de Portugal group of manor houses.
