An unusual and historic property, the guesthouse encircles the cloister of what was a 16th century monastery built from the ruins of the nearby Faria Castle. To arrive at the Quinta there is a pleasant drive through a pine forest. The English owners have restored the Convento with charm and imagination and are gracious hosts. The Quinta is built on the top of a hill and in the surrounding grounds are vineyards and a lovely spring-fed swimming pool (A Vinho Verde wine with the Convento da Franqueira label is produced from the grapes here). There is good walking in the vicinity. The bedrooms are spacious and attractively furnished, all ensuite of course. This relaxing and pretty property is part of the Solares de Portugal group. There is no restaurant at the Quinta, but there are several within easy driving distance.

Take a boat tour on the Cávado. Visit Ponte de Lima with its Roman bridge. Visit the Ceramic Museum in Barcelos and the archaeological musem.

“A nice homely feel with sitting room and pool adding to the stay and we loved chatting to the owner, Piers Gallie. Our room at the front of the house, facing car parking area was rather small, the other rooms looked nicer and were nicely decorated but we enoyed our stay very much.”
