The Convento Sao Saturnino is located at Europe's most westerly point - an ideal location to find some wonderful beaches, cultural attractions like Sintra and Lisbon and delightful walks and hikes in the forests and hills. Just 32 km. from Lisbon in the heart of a 5800 acre oceanside nature reserve, the treasured 12th century Convento Sao Saturnino is now a charming small hotel with just five beautiful guestrooms and two romanic suites transformed from an old water mill. The world has not yet discovered this historical gem of a small hotel in a wonderful location. The views, the tranquillity and charm will impress you. Each room has a different atmosphere, some with weathered beams, some with canopied beds, attic roofs and antique family furniture and paintings, all en suite of course. No telephone or television to spoil the tranquillity of this special hideaway. Buffet breakfast is served in the old kitchen or in the transformed chapel or you can enjoy eating under the lemon trees in the garden or on the terrace with views of the ocean. Evening meals are available if ordered in advance and there are many typical restaurants in the surrounding villages. The large crystal pool is built into the monastery's ancient water tank. The hotel offers stress-free weekend packages (with variations possible) during the winter which will include pickup at the airport, buffet supper on Friday night, breakfast on Saturday morning, Candlelight gastronomic dinner on Saturday evening, early brunch on Saturday morning, shiatsu massage etc. Ask for the special package price. Note that the road leading to the hotel is winding and steep.

Excellent. It was an inspiring and beautiful setting. We felt like we were really in a foreign country, not in a hotel that is the same everywhere. The management was extremely helpful and friendly.

We stayed the first three nights of our honeymoon at Convento de Sao Saturnino and it was fabulous! We were able to relax and rest after our wedding. The owner went out to his car and got the map from it and helped us plan the rest of our trip. We saw some amazing things that were totally off the beaten path at their recommendation and we loved everything!!! The hosts were incredible and Azoia is beautiful.
Rating: Excellent
The staff were incredibly accomodating and informative about the area. We really felt like we had the place to ourselves, even when there were quite a number of other guests.

Everything was so nice from our welcome to the ambience of the convent. lovely room and lovely view. Something interesting to rest your eyes on throughout the convent...antiques and artifacts all interesting and unusual. Never did the young women ask if we were happy, enjoying our stay. When we arrived early for breakfast, 8:40 a.m., the young woman seemed a bit hostile that we arrived. Never invited us to have our breakfast after it was ready and we were sitting in the dining room for a short time waiting. She made us feel as if we were intruding. The personality did not go with the warmth of the envirnment. Never did she ask if we were satisfied with breakfast although she was quite pleasant showing us how to work the coffee maker. Strange how the music was played inconsistently...it added a great deal to the atmosphere.
At departure, we asked for our passports. They said they gave them to us...first the woman who was called said she definitely gave them to to Joyce, then she said she gave them to the husband...When asked about the usual way passports were handled, she said they were placed in the board with the room keys. After much searching for them, calls, there were accusatory statements that we lost them. Don and I had discussed earlier on how we did not receive them after registering, I surmised we would have them when we left, they were probably holding them. After all the calls and looking, the young woman pointed to Don's suitcase, the upper pocket and said please open. There they were. It was like she knew, because she had placed them there, that that was where they could be found. Were they holding them, thinking we would forget them? Did the young man, very personable, put them there when he brought our luggage to our room and neglect to tell us? Very strange the way it happened and the hostility exhibited as our luggage was removed ruined our three day and may I say very expensive stay. It ruined the stay for us. Didn't Like:
