Pousada HistoricSituated on the hillside of Serra da Esperança, very near Belmonte, where Pedro Álvares Cabral was born, the Belmonte Pousada has its origins in the reconstructed ruins of the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Esperança, where there is also a small chapel from the XIII Century. The Belmonte Pousada preserves all the historical architecture of the former convent, including the amphitheatre in the woodlands. The rooms are elegantly decorated and are all ensuite and, as with all Pousadas, there is a hairdryer, television, minibar and safe in the room. There is a delightful swimming pool at the Pousada, and the restaurant serves delicious regional cuisine. Pousadas Update We are delighted to announce three new spectacular Pousadas opening in the spring and summer of 2009. These three Historic Pousadas are in Porto, Viseu and Estoi (close to Faro). We have recently visited the Pousada Palacio de Estoi, due to be completed in early May, and it is an outstanding property located in the former palace that was once the home of the Viscount of Estoi. A restoration of the original palace and grounds has been completed and will be complemented by new, modern and spacious rooms and suites. The gardens and swimming pool will make this an exceptionally relaxing and interesting place to stay.
